Causes of anal itching

Causes of anal itching

Occasionally, the causes of this condition can be intestinal parasites, lice, fungi, hemorrhoids or other more serious conditions of the anus, such as anal cancer. Less commonly, food allergies and allergies to medications such as antibiotics may be the cause. Anal itching is also associated with certain systemic disorders, such as jaundice, diabetes, lymphoma and uremia.

It is worth noting that it is a self-perpetuating disease: scratching causes further irritation, which becomes a new source of itching. The cause of anal itching can be difficult to determine, making the circumstances for its treatment potentially difficult. Those cases that do not respond to conservative treatments are included in what is called Refractory Idiopathic Anal Itching, which is extremely difficult to treat.
