Constipation and diarrhea or skin contact with stools can cause pain or itching.

By following the guidelines below, we can reduce irritation and discomfort:

Wash the area with water, but without soap, after each bowel movement. The soap can dry the skin causing irritation. If possible, washings should be done in the shower with lukewarm water. Try not to use toilet paper because scrubbing with dry toilet paper will irritate the skin more. Moist, alcohol-free tissues are a better choice.

After washing, leave the area free to air dry. If you don’t have time, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

Use a moisture cream, which protects the skin from contact with the stools. But always on the advice of your doctor, because some creams have ingredients that can cause irritation.

Try using talcum powder or cornstarch. Many times, they offer significant relief to the anal area.

Wear cotton underwear and loose-fitting clothes that “breathe”. Tight clothing that prevents ventilation can make anal problems worse. Changing soiled underwear should be done as soon as possible.

If you use diapers, make sure they have an absorbent wicking layer on top. Products with this layer protect the skin from stool and moisture.

Practical Everyday Tips

Take a backpack or bag with you everywhere, containing cleaning supplies and a change of clothing.

Locate public restrooms before you need them so you know where to go.

Use the restroom before you set out on your errands.

If you think an episode of incontinence is likely, wear disposable underwear or sanitary pads.

["post-5517","page","type-page","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
