What is the appropriate surgical treatment?<\/h1>

Surgery may be an option for people whose fecal incontinence was caused by an injury to the pelvic floor, anal canal, or anal sphincter. Several techniques can be applied. From the simplest, such as those of repairing the damaged areas with Sphincteroplasty, to the more complex, such as inserting an artificial anal sphincter or replacing the anal sphincter with muscles from the leg or forearm.<\/p>\n

In people who have severe fecal incontinence and do not respond to other treatments, the solution of permanent colostomy may be applied. This involves removing part of the bowel, taking the continuity of this out into a hole in the abdomen called a stoma, through which the stool will exit and be collected in a bag.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>
