It can also cause fever.<\/p>\n<p>Treatment involves surgical opening and draining the pus from the infected cavity, making an incision in the skin near the anus to relieve the pressure. Sometimes a small catheter is left in the incision for several days to ensure adequate drainage. After the acute phase of the abscess is over, a fistula is formed in the majority of patients who are treated only by simple opening-drainage of the abscess under local anesthesia.
